Second Stage in Lunigiana

From Groppoli Valdantena to Pontremoli

From the hilltop village of Groppoli Valdantena, the path descends steeply towards the Civasola stream, one of the many waterways in Valdantena, a small valley in the Borough of Pontremoli.

From the stream, which you cross over a particular suspension bridge, you arrive at the rural village of Previdé. Through a mule track characterized by the presence of numerous majesties, you reach the village of Groppodalosio, famous for its magnificent and ancient donkey back bridge.

Below the bridge flows the river Magra, the main Lunigiana watercourse. Then the path begins to go up again and, after passing through the villages of Casalina and Toplecca, it begins to climb towards the Crocetta pass, along a path characterized by the presence of chestnuts, oaks and maple trees. From the pass, the path descends steeply first to Arzengio and then to Pontremoli .

Arrival in Pontremolialong Villa La Cartiera – Pontremoli and crossing the Carmine bridge near the Old Hospital, a significant place due to the presence of the ancient Romanesque church of Saint George a short distance away. The entrance to the city is through Porta Parma.
