Il Borgo di Cecina nella Valle del Bardine

A Journey through the History and Beauty of Lunigiana

Located in the southern part of the municipality of Fivizzano, the village of Cecina is a true gem of Lunigiana. This enchanting place, nestled between the Bardine stream and the majestic Monte Sagro, offers a breathtaking landscape and an atmosphere of peace and tranquility.

Cecina stands out for its circular layout, which perfectly adapts to the surrounding hills. The hamlet also includes the settlements of Bardine di Cecina, Pontevecchio, Casalina and Canalone.
The stone houses, leaning against one another, create a charming panorama of narrow and winding streets, enriched by majestic stone portals and numerous shrines that dot the landscape. It also preserves the Church of San Giovanni, a 15th-century building; of particular value is the marble portal depicting Saint John the Evangelist and representations of the Virgin with Child.

Archaeological Discoveries

Another aspect of great historical significance is the discovery made in 1905 at Pontevecchio, where nine extraordinary stelae statues were found, an important testament to the culture of Lunigiana. These findings are located in the area of Bocciari and are a point of interest for archaeology and history enthusiasts.
