Historical News

The Taverone Valley was already inhabited in Roman times but the first written source attesting the existence of the castle dates back to 884. Other historical sources, including a document from Fivizzano, written by the castellan of the time in 1481, tells of serious damage caused to all the castles in the area during a terrible earthquake, including the fortress of Groppo San Pietro and the fortress of Sassalbo, which suffered so much damage that it has not been habitable since that time.
