Mount Bosta: Mountain Bike and Trekking itinerary
At the foot of the Apennines Mount Bosta (864 metres) is a true paradise for those who love trekking and mountain biking. Over the years, the cross of Mount Bosta has become the sacred peak of the sporting event of the year in Lunigiana: the Castagna Bike organized by Due Ruote in Villafranca Lunigiana, which every year attracts around 2500 enthusiastic bikers to the most important sports competition in Lunigiana. From the top of the mountain there is a spectacular view of the Apuan Alps, the western part of the Apennines and behind you rises the imposing Mount Marmagna.
The walk to the summit of Mount Bosta is not difficult, approximately 1.5 kilometres, and will be rewarded with a wonderful 360 degree view of Lunigiana. Instead mountain bike lovers can take a loop ride, starting from the free car park of the Pieve of Sorano, take the Via Francigena and leave it at the crossroads in the direction of Uliveto on the homonymous climb. Then follow the signs for Cavallana passing through some villages in the borough of Filattiera: Cavallana, Lusignana, Vignolo, Prada di Bosta, Biglio, Gigliana and the medieval hamlet of Filattiera, before finally descending from the ancient villageand returning to the Pieve of Sorano.
Where is it situated?
Mount Bosta is situated in the borough of Filattiera. To reach it you have to pass through the village of Biglio, by following the road from the village of Gigliana.
How to reach Mount Bosta
From the medieval hamlet of Filattiera take the “strada della selva” following the signs for Gigliana and then for Biglio. 100 metres before reaching Biglio, take the dirt road on the left, follow the mtb signs indicating Mount Bosta. You will find yourself on a hiking trail that has no difficulties. The final stretch of the trail that leads to the cross on the summit is slightly challenging. It can be reached by jeep.
