A three storey stone mill hidden in the woods
The Scervola stream mill, built in 1872 by the Binotti family, as chisled on its entrance stone, is situated near the Scervola stream in the Comune di Podenzana. Today the ruins are partially covered by the vegetation of the surrounding woods, which make this place seem “out of this world” taking us back to a time made up of a slow-paced life style and nature. The mill is one of the most beautiful and largest in Lunigiana: with its three floors and large stone arches, but is now unfortunately completely abandoned and it is slowly being swallowed up by nature.
Where is this mill?
It is situated between the village of Stadano (Comune di Aulla) and the Comune di Podenzana.
How to reach the mill
Once in Podenzana, follow the signs for Sescafale small town.
Then park under the church car park so as not to clutter the narrow streets of the village. The departure point is about 500 metres down the main road. follow the road with the help of the red signs on the trees. After a 15-minute-walk you will find the first crossroads (photo A on our APP). Do not continue straight where there are red signs in the woods but turn right. Continue down slightly steep slope but without any particular exposure. After another 10 minute walk you will find the second crossroads (photo B on our APP). Turn left and continue the down the trail which will take you to the remains of the Ancient Binotti Mill in 5 minutes .
Difficulty level: Hiking. Slightly steep constant descent. It has no particular exposure. You may find some fallen trees along the way.

Be careful in case of wet ground.

It is not recommended to enter the mill because the structure could be unsafe, it can be well admired from the outside.
