The Meadows of Massicciano: Meadows along the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines from which you can admire the village of Sassalbo
The Meadows of Massicciano are located near the town of Sassalbo in the municipality of Fivizzano. After about an hour-long hike, you will find yourself in expansive meadows in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennine National Park. Throughout this route, you will find various panoramic points from which to admire the mountain range and the village of Sassalbo.
How to reach the Meadows of Massicciano
Coming from Aulla, before crossing the bridge toward the town of Sassalbo, you will find on your right a group of houses and obvious signs of the trail. For the duration of the trail, you can orient yourself with signs from the Club Alpino Italiano (CAI) and the Ducati Trail (with directions to Mommio). Signage is excellent for the entire journey. The first stage takes about 20 minutes with medium-grade slopes and no exposure.
Various panoramic points along the way provide a splendid view of the village of Sassalbo and the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines. You will travel about 10 minutes on a slightly steeper grade before arriving at Monte Giogo di Vendaso at 1257 meters of elevation. The trail, continuing through a beautiful forest, begins to narrow and becomes slightly exposed for brief stretches. After about 20 minutes, you will begin to see the mountain range of Cerreto Pass and start a short descent to brings you into the Meadows of Massicciano. Along the way, you will find testimonies of the Nazi round-ups that the local population faced during WWII.

Some brief stretches with slight exposure on Giogo di Vendaso.
